A folder named _external-urls in the zip archives pages from other sites that you saved yourself — useful for anything behind a login, or on a site that refuses to be fetched. The folders inside it spell out the address: _external-urls/example.com/about.html answers to https://example.com/about.

Pretty URLs
about.html and about/index.html both display as /about. Both spellings still resolve. Compress the embedded payload (gzip)
Usually shrinks the output file 2–5× on text-heavy sites. Decompressed in the browser at load. Download external resources and serve them locally
Fetches CDN scripts, stylesheets, fonts and images referenced by absolute URL. Requires network access and a CDN that allows cross-origin reads. Archive pages linked on other sites
Follows outbound links — if a page cites a news article, that article is captured too, with its own stylesheets and images, and opens under its real address inside the archive. Needs network access and a site that allows cross-origin reads. Block network access in the finished archive
Adds a Content-Security-Policy so the archived site can never phone home — it renders from the embedded files only.

Never archive these paths — one pattern per line

* matches within one path segment, ** crosses /, ? is a single character. A bare name (/photos) or a trailing /* covers the whole folder underneath it, and a pattern with no / in it (*.pdf) matches by file name anywhere. Matched files are left out of the payload, are never fetched from the network, and show a short notice in the archive if something still links to them.

Compressus runs entirely client-side. The archive it produces needs no server and no network — open the .html file directly from disk.
